Title: New Tire Prepping
Post by savagethumper on 05/11/04 at 08:58:12

I'm about to purchase a new back tire.  I keep hearing horror stories about people wrecking their bikes right after new tires are put on.  Some one told me to rub the new tire down with "Goo Gone".  He said it would remove the oils and such off the tire, and make it less likely to slip and slide.  What suggestions do any of you have for prepping a new tire???? ???  I don;t want to wreck my bike, it's the only thing I have in perfect shape.

I've never heard of that - the only thing I have heard of putting on them is miles - first 100 miles be extremely careful - after that you should be fine.

That's right, the owners manual states be carefull the first 100 miles or so.
This is to get off the mould release agent, a silicone base stuff that makes your tyre slippery.
After that all that remains is the shiny outside of the tyre profile because you did not dare to lean over that much: the so called egde of shame. :-[
Don't worry you can remove that with a bit of sandpaper. ;D
