I don't understand the problem with the Strait of Hormuz. By truck it is only 285 km from Abu Dhabi to Sohar and the journey is faster than by ship.

Massive economies of scale take place here. Far superior fuel efficiency per ton-mile, and the use of cheaper bunker fuel are just a few reasons.
