Title: brake light allways on Post by Kaffe on 06/09/25 at 14:13:01 Hi, family I installed new brake switches, and while testing them, I noticed that they didn't affect the brake light (it remained on even when no brakes were pressed). So, I unplugged both switches, and the brake light stayed on, even when neither switch was connected to the electrical system. If I remember correctly, if I remove both switches, the brake light should remain off. For me to turn off the brake light, I have to unplug it or power off the bike. I checked the connections and wires, and they appear to be fine. Besides the switches, what else and where should I look to find what's wrong? Thanks Ya'll! :) |
Title: Re: brake light allways on Post by ThumperPaul on 06/09/25 at 18:27:53 Are you sure it's not the "tail light"? The tail light should turn on/off with the ignition (some gov't safety requirement or something). The brake light portion of the bulb should only illuminate when a brake lever/pedal is applied. It a "combination lamp". 12V 21/5W https://www.partzilla.com/product/suzuki/09471-12128?ref=886b7cc0d62e0d38e409c6e330753e899dbdbfb4 |
Title: Re: brake light allways on Post by Kaffe on 06/09/25 at 20:01:38 You think it might be the bulb itself? I'll give it a try. However, the bike has the stock turn signals and stop light, and if I remember correctly, the turn signals and running lights are the same as the front, and the stop light only turns on when the brakes are activated. Also, the running lights are only working when using the turn signals. I attached a photo of the bike in idle and the lights on, and the right turn signal active. Getting the bulb tomorrow and trying it out, will update! |

correct, turn off both brake switches and the brake light is off. 1st thing I'd check is if the brake light is wired correctly. early bikes have bullet connectors and you can wire them wrong. take off the pillion and you'll find 3 connectors that head to the tail light. if is possible to wire the running light to the brake switches and vice versa. the dimmer of the 2 is the running light and should be on all the time. the brighter is the stop light and should be connected to the brake lights. |
Title: Re: brake light allways on Post by Kaffe on 06/10/25 at 07:14:04 I'm sure I visually checked the light bulb, and it looked fine. I stopped at Walmart and bought two for $4.56, changed it, and YUP, it was the light bulb. Thanks At least I didn't go crazy over this for a week, just a day. It also humbled me, I am always telling my children that sometimes the fix for the problem is the most obvious one. I did everything you listed while checking the wires, visually inspected the light bulb and both filaments looked fine. (I was wrong and I'm going to get new eye glasses today, lol) 6E7D6A6B74797F7D7629180 wrote:
