Post by Bradley Spencer on 02/28/25 at 19:43:20 Hi folks, Just thought I’d kick off a new thread here and see what everyone’s been up to with their Savages. I’ve had mine for a while now, and it’s been a blast tinkering with it and taking it out on the trails. But you know how it is—there’s always room for improvement, right? So, I’m curious: what’s your favorite mod or upgrade you’ve done to your Savage? Whether it’s something simple like swapping out the grips or going all-in with a big bore kit, I’d love to hear about it. I’m always on the lookout for new ideas to make mine even better. Aside from wrenching on the Savage, I’m into all sorts of outdoor stuff—hunting, fishing, camping, rc planes and even a bit of off-roading when I get the chance. If anyone’s got any crossover hobbies or tips, feel free to share those too. Looking forward to hearing from you all and maybe picking up a few new tricks. Cheers! |

After also loosening the belt a bit the squeaking was solved. It was also useful to replace the fuel tap with a raptor, so I can remove the tank more easily. A fatter rear tire for looks. 8-) |

Post by LANCER on 03/01/25 at 04:26:56 From a practical standpoint, a front brake upgrade made for better braking and quicker stopping, which is a safety factor. Also, a suspension upgrade (front & rear) makes for better handling & smother ride. A safety factor. A fork brace tightens up handling, and better control on the curvy’s. A better seat cushion can be helpful for your butt. Changing final drive ratio, with a chain conversion or front sprocket change for belt drive for easier and more relaxed cruising on the highway. Then there are engine mod’s. High compression piston, camshaft, carb, clutch, and such to boost power and torque…the fun stuff. But not just for fun, increasing torque/power also make for a better ride going down the road by enabling the bike to pass other vehicles more easily and quickly, going uphill without downshifting nearly so much. And let us not forget that these changes can make riding curvy mountain roads that much more fun. [ch128526] [ch127949][ch65039] |

Stock front brake is crap. With all the engine mods I needed to be able to slow her down. Fork brace reinforces front fork and is a great mate with the Big Brake. |

I found a Harley seat that had about the same "LINES" as the Savage's place to put the Seat - and set-in on making it work ! ;) Then I used it for the next 20 years. The seat was used , plus my 20 years with it equaled to the corners having WEAR HOLES in them . :) Yes , that is a Good Year RADIAL GT Car-tire on the rear . 155SR15 made 15" VW Bugs ;D The ROUND thing under the tank is the Crank Case Breather. The Floorboards are Harley. The Crash Bar is Harley early Sportster. The Mud Flaps are Cut from Farm Equipment Belts. The Muffler is a Harley Take-off. It seems like a Harley/Suzuki Hybrid ? : :-? That TKA Fork Brace is "Worth the Money" ! ;) Notice the AIR BOX is gone ! |

Once I had it marked I drilled a level hole for good measure. I bought it from Amazon, it did not seem worth the effort making one as they cost next to nothing. It's sturdy and has the correct curvature. http://https://i.imgur.com/NeN6V1Ph.jpg http://https://i.imgur.com/IyDkqVoh.jpg Then there is the petcock mod, well worth doing but the tube size on the new petcock is smaller than the original. Its a decorative thing.. Im old, its a strugle to climb my bike! Im still able, its still a unesery pain in the ass to climb my bike! And then the sadle.. its still okey for my short rides.. and if I gonna be a long milage driver.. I probably buy another bike anyway! The same goes for any femal passangers.. Im to old for that, 69 years, they need to have there own bike! But I saw for long time ago a much bigger sadle, made for LS650/or S40 fits on that could be an option.. its probably to late? When we still is in the "I want to have mood", a GPS, in front of my eys, so I dont need to look down at the spedometer on the tank! I dont need it.. im juste used to driving cars.. I use a integral helmet.. I have look down at the tank! Dont worry Im old enough to feel the speed that Im driving at! Its juste that in my car I have a GPS that tell my speed and what speed its allowed on that road Im driving at! 8-) |

That little short pad has kept my wife from sliding of the back-end many times. The S-40 seat was more comfortable to me , but I had a Harley Seat modified to work on the S-40. The tank off a Suzuki 250 of an old ( https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/suzu/suzuki_gz250_marauder%2009.htm ) can fit the LS650s with a little modifying , it holds more fuel too ! Then the speedometer moves to where it should be. Those GPS speedometers off ebay are simple to put on. |

The 25 tooth front pulley really makes a nice difference at interstate speeds. ;) I put one of those "Spun Aluminum" round fuel tanks (from ebay) in the trunk after that long day. Stopping for fuel so much needed to change. ! Notice the "Trunk is higher than the fuel tank , so it's instant refill when the valve gets switched. :) It's also higher than the fuel tank over-flow ... ya got to wait till your first tank is on reserve ! ;D |
