Title: Should I Soak My Plates in Oil? Post by HotinTopeka888 on 02/23/25 at 03:19:01 Some time ago, I drained my oil and opened up my clutch case to check on the plates and cam chain tensioner. Turns out that everything that made up the clutch is fine. I left the case open for a couple of winter months however as I proceeded to slowly take apart and inspect the rest of the bike. I'm putting everything back together for the next couple of days. Should I take out the plates and soak them in a bowl of motor oil for a day as I would when replacing the clutch with a new one altogether? Or would i be fine just closing up the case and doing the routine oil change? Even after I put everything back together, I don't intend on riding til spring arrives. Wouldn't the plates be soaking in the case til then anyway? Thanks everyone for ALWAYS being a big help. I recently changed the o-ring and needle seat in my carburetor thanks to ya! |

Post by Ruttly on 02/23/25 at 07:37:22 New clutch plates need to be soaked in oil , used ones not really needed but you could just smear a bit of oil on each one when you reassemble. Use caution when replacing oil filter , it’s possible to put it in backwards and that will screw things up ! |

If you have already disassembled the clutch and removed the plates, sure, soak away. Letting them completely dry out probably isn’t the best idea. |
