Title: Winter Riding Post by ThumperPaul on 02/08/25 at 08:20:10 It’s been crazy warm in Houston for about the past week. We’ve been setting or tying record highs in the mid-80s. We had about 3-4 days in January when the overnight lows hit the low-mid 20s. Aside from that, riding conditions have been pretty good. I’ll get a good 2-3 hour ride in today. It’s still February. We’ll get another cold spell and this week will be wet. But this kinda our good spring riding season starting early (fake spring) - and before it starts hitting 100°+ in the summer. |
Title: Re: Winter Riding Post by MMRanch on 02/08/25 at 13:11:26 Paul , I think I'd move to West-Texas if I could. I lived in El-Paso for 72-74 at Ft-Bliss and loved the weather. But Ex Wife wanted to live in TN. ::) Maybe TX will be on the way to our Spring Ride ? :-? |

Sorry, but your x-wife is right, ya know. ;) Anywhere in TN is better than El Paso especially these days. Where is this infamous Spring ride going to finally land? I think we’re all waiting for Versy to put his foot down and make a decision! Looks like he wants us to come towards him in California. Arizona and Utah being tossed around. |
Title: Re: Winter Riding Post by MMRanch on 02/08/25 at 22:16:28 I'm thinking , Bike in or "ON" the Truck , sleep at Rest stops , and if it takes two days to get to our area ... so ... what ! I'm going to have a GREAT TIME anyway ! :) So plan : 1. put the 2 bikes in the truck and pull the trailer (w/cots) for me an Lancer to sleep in. I can bring 110 volt plug set-up (how many watts does the sleeping air thing need ? ) I don't have the windows in the trailer yet or the exaust fan either ? This plan might be better next year ? 2. Me and Lancer just split a motel bill on the way 3. Lancer and me take turns driving and sleeping and just bring Truck with 2 bikes in the back like usual , w/110 Volt 100watt in the cab I've always got the little one with me. https://www.ebay.com/itm/315708546971?_skw=12+volt+to+110+volt+power+inverter&itmmeta=01JKMNHQ9G749DPY962M1NKCS3&hash=item4981b21f9b:g:FZUAAOSw4Wdm0JBl&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKl1AEY3817mLZpSHmiZ2csiAxAZRZhGYdp0xkg8Ptpfp9gSu3%2FqZgxqfrY%2FoFHvM8bzRuYrpGLi1KOv8st6IlXZ09LN%2BT%2Fnyd2wpI1PVpss0XcKoe4RpnWXlm0%2BPwtouduI%2BB86laaFcYhhJpun4JAfrEF%2FG0UuyIAoi0jdDJsJlcCiqNxHrvvN1DW%2BlkWfiAz1I%2FzWzpEmVGEdpkKXOVDYZEv3mRT7%2B8S%2FPPMiqdG5NRFO0%2FXRq7eDOYknKhbkNjkOwr5x0ieiXnlZft1TIKa8%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_T0xpWdZQ |

Title: Re: Winter Riding Post by Dave on 02/09/25 at 03:31:14 Last Tuesday we had a break from winter and we had a single day that got up to 72 degrees! The foot of snow had finally melted, the rain had washed the de-icing salt from the roads, and the melt was pretty much complete and there wasn't a lot of groundwater or melting snow piles running water across the pavement. I head and saw a lot of motorcycles out on the road that day - unfortunately I had too much yard work to do and was not able to get out and ride. The forecast for the foreseeable future is still winter - with 30 degree temperatures in the daytime and rain/snow every few days. Here in KY March starts to bring in warmer temperatures - but freezing weather is still common. April is warm and wet - but some riding can occur between rain events. |
Title: Re: Winter Riding Post by ThumperPaul on 02/09/25 at 07:24:22 MM: I admire your spirit of adventure and willingness (and/or desire) to travel cross country for some riding. I really need to work up the gumption to go on a 10-14 day adventure. A ride or die buddy might help, but I really don’t have one. The couple of buddies I ride with most often aren’t up to doing the longer trips. They both “might” want to do a Hill Country group ride in April, but neither are particularly excited about it. My wife probably wouldn’t mind too much if I got away for 10 days and out of her hair, so that’s not a problem. Dave: Sorry you missed your 1 good day. 72° was a balmy day to miss up there. I got a jump start on the lawn and landscaping this week myself. Yesterday’s ride was good. Some wind gusts up to about 25mph were noticeable. I’ll get some more saddle time today and then we’ll be cooler and wet all week. I really need to psych myself up to doing the Spring 2025 Savage group ride wherever it might be. Phoenix/Tucson area? Moab UT (wow)? |
