I don't think they get told. I think they are more political than journalist and choose to protect Their Guy over Being the journalist and point out the consequences of the failure of Their Guy. And Kamala doesn't want people to add the 2+2 of her promoting the Bail Our Mostly Peaceful guys out and seeing the results of those Ohh So Peaceful guys out on the streets because of something She was fully in support of.

Main Stream Media, whatever that is, will go where the money is. Large businesses make money, that's what makes them mainstream.
