The question was probably meant to be euphemistic and he probably gave this answer to parry the question and to show his steadfastness.

The problem with someone with real spirit is that he will overcome any opposition.

I think the aliens are also looking strangely at who we are dealing with here.
You don't see many people with genuine spirit in politics.

Negative behavior is herd behavior And I think a lot of opponents are guilty of that.

The individual will be careful not to talk like that. Because he feels that he is distancing himself from himself.
