Title: Parking light disable Post by easymoney on 08/29/24 at 10:19:58 I would like to disable the parking light feature on my 2013 S40 and just have two 'OFF's" on my ignition switch. I want my taillight to work when the ignition is on. I am too dumb and careless to learn to always turn the key to the original off position. Can I cut the brown wire, cap off the switch side and splice the other side to Orange switched wire? Is there a better way? Thanks |
Title: Re: Parking light disable Post by verslagen1 on 08/29/24 at 11:12:26 I'm not sure if this is the bulb in question but it might be a 12v 3w bulb which equates to 1/3 amp. Why not put in a LED bulb? 40-90 m amp according to the superbrightled site. So instead of .333 it's .04 to .09 amp. This will only double the parasitic draw if you happen to "leave it on" |

You can pull the key with the parking light on and run your battery down. Well, that's what I hear... :-[ EDIT: I managed to make that mistake twice. |

Title: Re: Parking light disable Post by JOG on 08/29/24 at 21:14:00 It's easier to swap bulbs. If you're still not totally comfortable you can test at home. |

Title: Re: Parking light disable Post by Gary_in_NJ on 08/30/24 at 09:16:13 You can disable it by removing the trace in the ignition switch drum. |
Title: Re: Parking light disable Post by easymoney on 08/30/24 at 12:49:22 I ended up using a tap splice, one of those things that straddles one wire and has a blind hole for another wire end and a metal bridge that pushes through to make the connection. They get used for trailer wire hookups a lot. I cut the brown wire from the ignition switch a couple inches out and insulated it off. Then I tapped onto one of the orange wires with the splice. Park position now does nothing-just another off. On position every thing works, including taillight and license plate light. Zero road miles so far though. |

Title: Re: Parking light disable Post by Dave on 09/02/24 at 06:56:46 I have never had any problem turning the key counterclockwise to turn it off - it is the same direction that turns off everything I own that has a key. Old habits are hard to break I guess - but this habit turns out to be useful! |
