Title: not a tax Post by thumperclone on 08/18/24 at 01:53:05 the orange felon claims that tariffs are not a tax on us. a 10% tariff on Chinese steel is a tax on the exporter who then raises the price by 10% which trickles down to the end user... us not a tax? right, it's a price hike... convict math 101 |

Who knew you were like an economic genius. So I assume like many other economists, you agree that trying to put price controls on our food supply is a disastrous idea. Adding $25,000 to selected new homebuyers increases the price of housing. Demanding 3 million new homes be bought requires taking control of local zoning commissions, and forces investors to look elsewhere to develop real estate. That there’s no such thing as cancelled student debt, it’s transferred the debt to taxpayers which reduces funds available for other programs, which in turn drives another tax increase. Hope Kamala doesn’t ask you to be an economic advisor. Otherwise you’d have to tell her to pound sand. |

Title: Re: not a tax Post by Graybeard on 08/18/24 at 08:25:58 Wanna know what another tax is that we all pay? Corporate income tax. YaKnow,, it's a lot like taking some of China's profits from them. They have to jack up the price in order to maintain their profit margin. Same thing happens when the government takes money from a corporation. |

Title: Re: not a tax Post by Serowbot on 08/18/24 at 11:09:28 Trump is proposing a 10% tariff. Economists say that amounts to a $1,700 tax on Americans. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-tariffs-proposal-10-percent-1700-cost-per-us-household/ http://https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2423/8037/files/Best_Trump_Memes_inappropriate_gift_14_large.jpeg?v=1592124432 |
Title: Re: not a tax Post by Eegore on 08/18/24 at 12:58:49 It's not a tax on US citizens. There is deferred cost, but that cost is potential and not direct. So no, a 10% tariff is not a tax on the American people, but it may incur additional cost to those people that choose to purchase those specific products. Many times tariff is to introduce cost so that money is spent in the US and not overseas. Jobs! Or whatever reason you want to accept for utilizing more US made product. I would rather see tariffs than direct taxation on overseas commodity. They are easier to manage and change which is important in such a drastically changing supply chain and quickly evolving global market. |
Title: Re: not a tax Post by Serowbot on 08/18/24 at 14:36:08 Tariffs are to encourage US manufacturing and goods. to discourage outsourcing to foreign workers A good thing when used properly It does nothing to lower inflation .. but Trump only knows two economic tricks ... tariffs and tax cuts for the rich If you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail |
