Title: Hand grips
Post by Bohica88 on 07/29/24 at 20:24:34

Ok so my bike is missing the grip on the clutch side. How do I know if something I order online for a 1 inch bar will work? The throttle side is a bit larger. I'd say about 11/4 inch. What are you guys using. Where did you get them?

The throttle tube is why the right is bigger than the left.  Matching the throttle tube is the important thing.  There are 100s of 1” options out there.

99% of the options out there come with the right grip pre-installed on a universal/generic throttle tube.  The grip can be removed (carefully with a skinny flat blade screw driver and some WD40 or silicone lubricant) from the throttle tube and then you can install the new grip on your existing stock throttle tube.

It took me a couple purchases to find grips that had a universal throttle tube that was a really close match to the stock throttle tube.  I don’t know if I saved a link to the set of aftermarket grips that worked (throttle tube matched up good) out of the box (from Amazon).  I’ll look.  I have a set of stock grips in good condition that I can sell if you are interested.  You probably want something new and more custom or comfortable to go with your “Z” handlebar, but I thought I would throw it out there.

Sorry, forget my offer to sell the grips.

I’m guessing you haven’t removed your grips and looked at the throttle tube.  Here are a couple pics that might be helpful.

The throttle tube side is 5.5” without the end cap.  It’s right at 5.75” with the end cap.

The throttle tube needs to accept a 6mm “barrel ferrule” on the throttle cable.

Another look.

A blower would probably help. I replaced the rubber tip with 1/8" brass tubing on one. It'll put a blast of air down in a hole and launch stuff right back in a guy's face. Go ahead, ask me..

Full disclosure

Requires compressor. Or an adequate volume of compressed air.
Just having a blower will not do the job.

I use rubbing alcohol for r&r of grips.  Gives you about 15 seconds of slip then dries with no residue
8-)

I only recently learned of the "Hawk Tuah" girl.  Her mother must be really proud (provided her mom is Roseanne Barr).

The HawkTuah method leaves a sticky residue...

Can you imagine watching TV and seeing your daughter saying that?
My first thought was for her dad..
