Title: How much life on this tire? Post by Odysseus on 06/23/24 at 16:26:49 Just what the title says: it's a Dunlop rear tire. How much life do you think I've got left there judging from the tread? |

Title: Re: How much life on this tire? Post by Dave on 06/24/24 at 04:43:24 It was ready for replacement several years ago. What does the date code show the tire was built. |
Title: Re: How much life on this tire? Post by ThumperPaul on 06/24/24 at 05:20:52 I’d say minus 2-3 years. You can see the dry rot in the tread grooves. I wouldn’t ride on it. It looks like you have it off the rim and bike. Next stop is to donate it to the WalMart or Discount Tire dumpster. |
Title: Re: How much life on this tire? Post by J Mac on 06/29/24 at 07:57:53 Yes, it kind of looks like crap. You can get an IRC for $124 on Dennis Kirk today. Or, you can take Dave's advice like I did and switch to a 130/90-15. Revzilla has Shinko and Kenda for about $90. I think the absolute maximum tire age you ever want to keep is 10 years. Don't let the presence of tread fool you (not a consideration in your case). I bought a hardly-used 2012 Savage a couple years ago. The tires looked good because they only had 800+ miles on them. They were so hardened and gripless that I wouldn't ride on them. |
