i followed the German picture that we have posted on the head plug seal how to.
Heres a real life picture

Even this much RTV is on the heavy side.

I used Motorcraft RTV silicone sealant (let’s see what happens)

Yes, that is a bit heavy and likely squeezed out a significant amount. The stuff that oozed out does not provide any seal - you can cut it off and make the appearance better. I use Suzukibond on black engines and Hondabond4 on silver engines......when the color matches it blends in better and is not so noticeable.

A thin bead is all you need.

The lobes on your cam appear dry - I applied a cam lube with moly grease to provide lubrication at start up. Be sure that you fill the tray under the cam with oil before you start the engine - you can fill it from the exhaust valve inspection port once you have the engine back in the frame.

Thanks for the comment dave, I applied lube on the cam shaft thats but not on the lobes.
This morning I cleaned up all the rtv that oozed out and the silicone i used is a nice blue color so doesn’t look bad at all , thanks for that idea!

I also applied some paste to the exposed cam that I could see through the inspection cover and put a swig of oil in there then rocked the motor around

I have used a tiny brush to apply a small amount and then come back and spread/thin it a bit more. I like the syringe method though and plan to use that if I ever need to repeat the process.

I use a gloved finger. Less chance of material run-away. But yes, less is best. It's not what you have to clean up on the outside, its that a similar amount is now inside that you can't clean it up.

To be honest I didn’t know how much rtv to put and didn’t want to put too little and have it leak
I read a post and someone wrote to make the bead the size of a pencil, it looks fine, not much ozzed outside so inside must look the same.

I removed all the excess around the outside and removed what I could remove inside the valve covers.
I think it looks good.

Should be the size of a "pencil lead"....not the whole pencil! ;)

A freshly sharpened pencil or a dull pencil? A regular pencil or a jumbo pencil?

How about a 2mm wide bead? Is 3mm too fat?

Having recently done this, my OCD went through the roof... ;D :o ;) I had about a 1mm oooz of extra unneeded RTV squeezed out on the outside when I was done (so probably about the same amount on the trouble-maker inside that you can't see as Gary in NJ noted). For a rookie, not bad IMO. We'll see what the dissected oil filter says in a couple months.
