Unless it's been poorly lubricate, I don't see how it could be worn out. Even with nothing but short trips. I'd do the tensioner modification and ride it.

Trip length plays into that. The explanation is tedious.
And the tensioner modification will get more out of the chain. Some people here have triple that and it's fine.

Chain removal is done by taking out the chain tensioner and cam bolts, letting the sprocket drop down a bit, removing cam.......then you get enough play to take the sprocket out of the cam chain.

You should get a Clymer manual and follow the instructions and photos.
