If your petcock is the original vacuum operated petcock - it should have two hoses.  One is the vacuum line that pulls the diaphragm and opens the fuel flow.  The other line goes to the float bowl and lets the fuel flow from the tank to the carb.

If your petcock has been replaced with a manually operated one - then you only have one hose.

With the manual petcock and a single fuel hose - it is necessary to cap off/plug the vacuum port on the carb to prevent an air leak.
