Title: LiFePo4 battery question.
Post by Moarpower on 08/01/23 at 05:33:40

Hi guys. I have the battery attached from another project. I was thinking about using it in the savage. It have a built in BMS.
I was just wondering if it would be suitable with the reg/rec ?

As long as your charging system puts out 14 to 14.5 VDC it will be fine. If your regulator allows for the system to put out more than 14.5 VDC than you will need to replace the regulator/rectifier to keep the LPF battery from over charging- which can lead to a run away fire.

BTW, a split second of a valve above 14.5 is acceptable, but a continuous charge above that valve is the problem

I've had a Lithium battery in my bike for several years now without issue.  Well, I killed one but it had nothing to do with the bike.   They have been 100% maintenance-free.  No chargers or tenders.  Never disconnected for storage.  I love them.

Get the correct charger too. Same as Ohiomoto , killed one my fault, in 3 of my bikes, 0 maintenance, keep connections tight. Only way to go , Shorai is the brand I use. Not cheap but they last. Can’t remember how old the one is in the Sportster, sat for eight months , fired right up , it’s never seen a charger yet. Has to be at least 8 years old. Got my vote.
