Title: Amish into e-bikes
Post by Serowbot on 07/08/23 at 16:16:27

don't think there's a side to this.... but interesting non the less.

Amish communities are using a surprising new kind of vehicle to travel long distances: ‘It’s a lot quicker’
https://www.thecooldown.com/green-business/amish-transportation-e-bikes-lancaster-pennsylvania/
Electric bikes, as many have discovered in recent years, are a highly convenient mode of transportation. They’re much cheaper than electric vehicles, faster than walking, and less physically arduous than riding a regular bike. And they don’t produce planet-warming pollution like cars do.

Now, it seems that e-bikes have caught on in a somewhat surprising place: Amish communities.

Part of why I like motorcycles is their light weight and simplicity, and e-bikes even more so.
I have a tiny one, that only goes 15mph... but it's a fun little ride.
15 mile range, up to 30 with pedal assist.
Feel like a kid again.

Unless of Course you decide to be honest.
Someone is mining for the stuff to Make the baterries.
The electricity to charge them Still has to be created.

Funny thing about the grid,, being told to Adjust the thermostat, to protect the grid..
And buy electric vehicles..

Not SEEING that?
Well, THAT requires special abilities.
Safe and Effective, right?
Russia Russia Russia..

You HATED Trump for colluding with Russia.
Once it was proven to be lies, you kept hating Him, instead of the liars.

“… Charging A car is like running a bit less than two central AC systems …”

“… Charging A car is pulling more than the water heater …”

When you Buy a EV.
Take a shower using less than 1/2, the time and heat & stop using a hair dryer.
No drinking coffee or toast, turn down the AC or heater.
Change all your incandescent: lights to LED’s

Then in 3-5 years, you may be able to do those things again, when the Elect Grid/Power can handle the extra power needed.
Don’t forget, that EV will probably need a new Batterie by then, make sure you have saved enough.
Oh, and do NOT forget the ‘disposal’ fee for the old batterie.

EV cars, great for SOME situations.  (1905/8) when they were reliable.
But the Puppets, running this government, PUSHING, to put them on the road when there is NOT ENOUGH ‘grid/power’.
Making EVERYONE PAY for one.
Hamstringing the vast majority of this population.

Yet that all is typical of a, UL, DFI, FDS, WOKE Freedom HATING, Socialist !

Should'a oughtta' woulda' coulda'...

Is...

...and you are incredulous that I don't believe.
How can you not believe tRump is indicted?
It's fact.

What list?
There is no list.  There were no crimes.
The findings were that she was a bit negligent, but not intentional and not criminal.
She was not indicted.
Period.

tRump took several thousand documents including more than 100 classified and it was intentional.  Also lying about them to FBI.
Crimes and crimes.
No if's and's or but's.
And now there are multiple witnesses to him showing them to people.
That's espionage.  Major felony.
That's life in prison.

Lock him up! Lock him up!

What’s the limit for Amish as for as machines they won’t use? I thought electricity was a no-no.

And not to change the subject but 75 indictments from a partisan prosecutor is not what you think. When Republicans take The White House and a prosecutor indicts Puddinhead for his actual crimes, your little panties will bunch up so tight, you’ll be peeing through your eyelids.

tRump is promising a partisan judiciary,...
Biden is doing everything possible to avoid it.

Smith has no record of partisanship.

If tRump gets in, the first thing he'll do is try to pardon himself.
From prison.
What a ridiculous hot mess. ::)

Good God but you’re delusional.

But back to my question, why can they ride electric bikes but no light bulbs?
Does anyone know or am I gonna have to look this up myself?

"... why can they ride electric bikes but no light bulbs?...:

They can use Elect.
Solar, Batteries, Steam, Water, Wind power.
Just not the Grid.

Remember MANY years ago.
The Amish bought a farm.
They saw a NSP truck. (Minn Power Co, now Excell)
Told the driver to take down the power pole into the farm.
Of course he had to go through the correct hoops and it took some time.

So a week later, a Amish saw another NSP truck/driver, and told him;

'If you don't take the pole down and the wire out.
We are just going to cut it down, and let it run out on the ground'

But back to my question, why can they ride electric bikes but no light bulbs?

The difference, typically, but not always, is Mennonites vs Amish.  Mennonites use electricity, in varying degrees, each group rejects different technologies for different reasons, and traditional Amish do not typically use electricity at all.  This includes light bulbs.

Some Mennonite groups use light bulbs, some even drive cars.  Amish, typically, do not.  However it seems here, some Amish are now allowed to use the e-bike, in replacement of a horse/buggy for convenience.  It is not creating a dependency on the outside world, I guess because the bike is sold by some Amish dealer?  Who knows.

If they were making the bikes, and self-powering the factory it would make more sense to me.

I believe research on the topic, will show you, the Majority use Elect, just not off the grid.

"I believe research on the topic, will show you, the Majority use Elect, just not off the grid."

I would say the majority of Amish utilize electricity, however the majority of Traditional Amish do not.  I didn't really clarify traditional versus majority, just as I did not clarify majority Mennonite from Old Order Mennonite when describing vehicle usage.

I think at the end of the day each group just makes it up as they go along.  The bikes don't seem to be a big deal, I guess because they aren't considered a necessity item and they could always just go grab a horse.  The comparison to motorized vehicle environmental impact seems pointless as their only other option would, typically but not always, be a horse.
