Title: SavageHenrik chopper
Post by SavageHenrik on 06/08/23 at 11:20:48

Hello all, this is more of a ever evolving thread for me and for you guys to see how i make changes to my savage to become a chopper.

Please be gentle  :-X

Starting almost stock. I've already made a change in this picture such as:
New exhaust.

Today i got my new extensions for the forks. designed them and had some CNC friends to help me out.

The length was increased 4' (10cm), and i didnt have to extend  the front break line. (it was calculated promise  ;D )

I've also removed the front fender, belt plate and the chrome top on the engine head.

My forks are only slightly longer than yours and there was noticeable flex and twist just rolling it around during the build process before I put the fender on.  That is why they quit selling slugs for fork extensions in the early 70's. The flexing stresses the slugs where they thread into the original fork tubes and they eventually crack or break entirely. Keep an eye on yours for signs of cracking.

Looks like we had similar ideas though. Nice looking start on yours.  :)

Hi

Thanks for the intel. I've used high grade stainless steel and made them solid pieces. So far i've not noticed anything. Already put 300 miles on them this weekend. But i'll keep an eye out for any sign of wear.

Thanks  8-) Gonna send the extensions to get chromed in the winter.

Adding a fork brace will probably help reduce the flex.

I've removed alot of the electrical, saving only the bare minimum for that naked look, and to drive safely and get approved for the road. One of the switches are turn signal and the other is for the horn.

I Cad design it and cnc machined it from standard aluminium. The idea is to polish it or chrome it later this winter.

What do you guys think of it  :) ?

Yes i'll change the screw to something nicer!

Another view of it.

Always nice to clean up the controls and make it look simple.

It that like sandwich layers on the design?

It's just some beveled edges so something happens on the surface. Design touch

It could be a tip of the hat to engine cooling fans.

Well i'm very diligent with using my blinkers, so the electrical is going hot  ;D

Cool switch you made there.

Always cool to see everyone's interpretations! I do appreciate zevenenergie's thoughts on the switches to keep the water out.

How much of a reach is it to the horn button? Seems remote from the grip, but it could just be the perspective of the picture.

Of course, safety first 0: )

Thanks, was a fun little project.
I have to "stretch" my thumb a bit to reach it. But it's nothing i would use anyway because the bike is louder than the horn rofl. Have the horn button so its street legal and makes the popo happy :D

Bought some blinkers holder for the forks and then re tapped them so i could put my side mirrors there instead, was a bit of a hassle to get the angle right but works really good.

The bike feels alot "slimmer" when driving with the mirrors "hidden" like that :D

Nice mod work.  The mounts look clean.  I hope you can see more of the road than your knees!
