Title: Speedometer Question
Post by CamiP on 05/07/23 at 10:28:28

I have a 1988 Suzuki 650LS Savage and I don't have a speedometer installed. I need to purchase one but I have no clue on what kind to buy. This bike has been modified so really having a difficult time figuring out stuff. It runs great. If I could purchase a cheap one that will work. Please help. Thanks...

I am not aware of your mechanical abilities......so you have some options.

I assume you no longer have the stock fuel tank and instrument panel on the bike.

Cheapest/easiest way to get a speedo to show you mph is to buy a used Garmin or similar GPS - and you can use it for navigation was well!  It will only require you to buy a motorcycle mount and wire in a power supply.

Next "easiest" is to buy a GPS dedicated speedometer.  The wiring is a bit more complex....you will likely have to connect several wires for power, ground, display light, and perhaps turn signals, neutral indicator, and high beam (depending on model you buy).  There is seller in the Marketplace that sells one specifically for the Savage.

Another option is to buy a universal speedometer like TrailTech or similar models.  In addition to the wiring you will have to attach a magnet to the front wheel and a sensor to the forks or fender....and you will have to calibrate the speedo to your wheel size.

A GPS speedo is easiest. All you really need is 12v power and your ready to go.

But like Dave said, got the stock tank?  Thats where the stock gauge usually is, if not you can mount one up on the bars or something.

This sounds like a great opportunity to add something awesome too.

Ive got a pile of them if you need some help or suggestions.

Spamy:  I tried to find your GPS speedometer listing in the Marketplace section so I could provide a ling, and I could not find it.
