Title: Wossner Pistons?
Post by Moarpower on 10/29/22 at 23:55:47

Hello guys. I'm currently shopping for pre 95 DR650 pistons here is Australia. I'm wondering if anyone has used Wossner Pistons ? They are cheaper than the Wiseco options and come in high comp and other types.
I'll probably just stick with the Wiseco but just curious if anyone has experience with other brands.

Wossner pistons made for the ‘90-95 model DR650 will work in the Savage.  If you can get them for a good price then go for it.  I’ve used them in years past when the Wiseco pistons were not available.

Waiting to hear back from Mike regarding the compatibility of these pistons but here are the details of the 96.44mm 8503D150 piston, the bare piston weight is 371 grams, the wrist pin 95 grams, and rings around 25 grams

The compression distance is 28.9mm

This 96.5mm bore and 96.44mm piston may be useful to anyone who wants to do a larger bore but have enough remaining for that final 97mm piston down the line.

All looks OK to me.

At a total weight of 491 grams, it won't be a shaker. The compression height will not pose a problem.  I assume it is a pop-top with a dome volume of 6.1 cc so the compression ratio will be under 10:1. It shouldn't be a problem finding fuel with sufficient octane.

You still should do clay checks to verify adequate valve-to-piston clearance.  Given the compression height I suspect that you will have plenty of room but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Once you get that piston, howzabout posting some pics.  If it comes with any instructions, would also be nice if you could post those too.  I'm particularly interested in the ring set and recommended running clearance.  Appreciate any info you can share with us.
