Title: Requesting advice on a rotor replacement Post by Surviving Philadelphia on 09/28/22 at 14:53:30 Yo Savages, I picked up this EBC front rotor after a stuck caliper condition fried my pads and gouged my rotor up pretty bad. Here's a few questions: 1) I was wondering if anyone else had had Experience with this rotor, now that it's in hand, it seems much heavier than the stock rotor, is this an issue? 2) Do the holes need to be deburred? 3) Do the bolts need to be replaced along with the rotor? 4) What kind of thread locker do I need to use? 5) I'm planning on putting jack stands under the front foot pegs while the wheel is off -- are they strong enough to support the bike? 6) any other tips for this job? Shouldn't be an issue. 2) Do the holes need to be deburred? There shouldn't be any raised edges, that will only gouge the pad. Square edges are fine. 3) Do the bolts need to be replaced along with the rotor? I never have. 4) What kind of thread locker do I need to use? Blue if anything. The factory sh!t is strong stuff, I'd treat it with pen oil or heat it. 5) I'm planning on putting jack stands under the front foot pegs while the wheel is off -- are they strong enough to support the bike? 400# bike vs 2ton jackstands? 6) any other tips for this job? I put the jackstand under the right peg mount, then wrestle the bike up and use my toe to push the stand between the frame and kickstand mount. The foot peg itself will flex up so... don't put it there. Put it under the metal mount. No thread locker, they're just 1 more spot that I check and never have a problem. |

I believe it's intended for earlier models. There was a change at some point, not sure exactly what year. I was hesitant to use it since it was really a tight fit, so I got a late model rotor instead. What year is your bike? You might wanna make real sure that the pads don't drag on the new rotor, and the caliper has some lateral play once the rotor is installed. |

Title: Re: Requesting advice on a rotor replacement Post by Surviving Philadelphia on 09/29/22 at 05:00:49 bike is a 2013 -- part giant claims exact fitiment for a 2012 (i'm assuming 2012 and 2013 use the same stock rotor, i think its the same model year). the disc lists min thickness as 4.5, i cant seem to find the actual specs for the EBC rotor -- the clymer manual states that the front disc thickness should be between 4.3-4.7 with a wear limit of 4.0. |

The previous pads were down to the metal and I had to clean the caliper piston with some emery cloth before bolting it back up, but it seems overall like a decent job. However, the brake lever seems VERY sensitive -- I actually feel like I could lock the front brake in an emergency, which I never felt was remotely possible before. Any thoughts about this? |
