Title: need opinion on my cam chain life expectancy
Post by barnett468 on 08/09/22 at 12:07:33

I am trying to contact verslagen1 to get my chain tensioner modified, and if I can get that done, I am wondering if anyone can give me a guestimate as to how much longer my current chain will last.

I am also wondering what I should look for as far as where my cam chain may hit as it stretches, so I know by looking when I should replace it.

My bike has 13k on the speedo, but since I am not the original owner, I don't know if that is original.

Does the chain on these bikes stretch enough in 13k miles to allow the plunger in the tensioner to nearly fall out like mine now is?

Thanks for any ideas.

I've read it's not so much the total miles but more the type of miles put on. Shorter, more frequent trips cause the plunger to extend more than longer trips. I'm sure other, more expert forum members will reply, but that's a little early info for you.

Even w/out measuring the amount of extension I can tell you are moments away from despair.

Don't pass go, it won't last that long.

you have mail.
