Title: Different Drive Belt?
Post by LuckyLuna on 07/31/22 at 14:47:42

What do people think of running a different width belt? No matter what I do, Im getting just  a horrible squeak noise from the rear pully when I'm under power, when I'm in neutral or with clutch in, it goes away.

Ive cleaned the pully, Ive tried reseating the belt, Belt Conditioner seems to work, but only for a trip or two, then I have to reapply. Its honestly driving me to look for other bikes, its just one battle after another with this..

If you can't twist it 90* in the middle of the bottom of the belt while you are channeling a fifth grade girl, it's too tight.

Something isn't aligned just right, if everything is where it is supposed to be it won't squeak.

Best regards,

No belt conversion, but you can switch to a chain.

Belt tension and alignment are key.  Search the forum, there's a lot of help with both.  How many miles on the bike?  You may need to replace the rear pulley bearing.  It's not hard to do.  Search for the double bearing fix.

Sounds to me like your belt may be way out-of-alignment.  Have you checked it?

check to see if you've swapped spacers.
fat one on the left, skinny on the right.
the fat one fits into a seal, the skinny one slips in last.

DBM has a great bearing upgrade for pulley hub keeps it running straight

Front pulley comes loose too

Do the DBM wide bearing conversion. Very cheap and easy.
Then, check the pulley alignment with a straightedge along the outboard side of the pulleys.
I narrowed my pulleys down and sourced a heavy duty (narrower) belt. Because I’m running the +2 tooth front Kawi pulley, things were a bit cozy. I got a slightly longer belt.
