Title: Just a DawGone Shame
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/12/22 at 18:43:07

Too bad the road isn't at Least half filled with electric cars.

Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which operates Texas' electric power grid, asked households and businesses to conserve power this afternoon and warned of potential rolling blackouts.

The grid faces a "potential reserve capacity shortage with no market solution available," ERCOT said in a notice released Sunday night.

ERCOT asked people to reduce energy consumption between 1400-2000 local time when temperatures are expected to soar into triple-digit territory.

This is a good point regarding having an infrastructure capable of providing for demand.

The issue here really is ERCOT.  They can't handle cold, and they can't handle heat.  Sooner or later people will see that an isolated grid governed in a vacuum isn't viable at this time.  I'm sure somehow this is renewable energy's fault, even on power grids where no renewable energy is hooked in.

 Incorrect

The issue is lack of infrastructure able to provide for EV's.
Which is happening ALL over, not just TX.

Next issue to be dealt with is the
LACK of EV's paying road tax.
(Before the cape pops out,
Some States have applied a type of road tax for EV's,
but that, is a fraction of what it costs for a petrol machine.
And most of it is eaten up by the extra cost of implantation)

You drive a petrol machine over the road,
you pay to keep the road,
a road, not a rutted dirt track.

You drive a EV,
the Petrol Vehicle pays 99% of the road tax.

You drive a Pedal/bike powered unit,
the Petrol Vehicle pays 99.8%,
of the cost
to make dedicated 'bike' lanes in certain areas.

Today, the EV's pay a teeny, tiny, minuscule, amount,
for the SAME usage of something,
someone else pays the Lions Share for.

When does the infrastructure needed for EV's grow,
along with the amount of EV's on the road ?

When does the fair share cost for repair/construction of roads,
fall on the shoulders of the EV users,
instead of the Pietro users.

Bot, how do propose to do that ?

Or just do what the Butt F-ucker does.
Ride  A Bicycle, to work,
while  the Gas guzzler SUV's,
follow him !

Once the EV is popular enough to be impactful, we might consider a transition from fuel tax to a tire tax for instance.

There is no way that electric cars caused all those power outages during the winter, or today.  In the near future, yes it's an inbound issue.  ERCOT itself said it wasn't renewable energy input, or pull that caused those outages.  But what do they know about their own power grid.

ERCOT due to it's own governance does not allow for outside power to enter the system like other power grids.  If they allowed for a power input contingency they could have more power to distribute like most other grids do.

There should be equal taxation on EV cars, but to say today's power outages are because of EVs and not because ERCOT is poorly managing power is just an attempt to blame renewables for bad management.

Why aren't there rolling blackouts in areas with the most EV car usage?  If EV cars were the problem then we should expect power outages in those areas, not just the ERCOT managed grids.

And what would you call your post?
Less than Aw sum deflection?...

So last winter it was all those EVs not the frozen gas lines causing the power outages.  Got it.

Think big picture. If you don’t have enough energy storage to provide 100% of the demand, then you need fossil fuel backup ready to go, at all times. And if you have extended times of low wind and sun, you’d essentially need 100% fossil fuel energy supply which is the equivalent of a 100% redundant system.

Nuclear is the only long term option. We’re going to have to do it sooner or later, let’s start now.

I agree.  I do not think that EV's are the issue at this time, or at any time in the past when ERCOT failed to provide power.

If we go renewables the battery farms will be astronomical in size.

You better avoid that. That is your polyester stuffing shrinking.
