Title: Rotella t5 recommendation???
Post by Job on 05/09/22 at 20:26:43

Hey guys I was given a gallon of Rotella t5 synthetic 10w30 oil. I have always used T4 with no problems, have any of you used 10/30 t5 and we're there any problems. Thanks for your help.

I wouldn’t use 10w-30 in the Savage…and not in NM. Too hot. I believe that 10w-40 is called for in hot climates

Gary, I'm not worried about the viscosity only whether the T5 is as compatible with the S40 as the T4. I am just south of the Colorado line and most of my riding is in The San Juan mountains of SW Colorado. I don't ride the bike in town here, too many crazies here. I also ride all winter so the 10-30 would be fine then.

Hello, Anyway to get some clarification on the correct oil to use in my 06 S40. I have been building the bike all winter and now am ready to oil it up. I read a very old post somewhere with some oil recommendations .
It Mentions Rotella T6 and Rotella triple protection.
Also Mobile 1 synthetic.
Confused both Rotella's say for Diesel motors ?
What oil is everyone running ?  What is recommended now ?
Thank you

Well let me see , you could run Rotella or maybe some Rotella or just try some Rotella. A lot of us here simply use Rotella. Any ?s

Rosella T4 or T6 is commonly used for the Savage.

T4 is conventional oil, T5 is a synthetic blend, and T6 is a full synthetic oil.  I use T4 myself.

I'm guessing the T5 is fine, but I'm not an expert.  Apparently, the oil war experts are worn out and don't want to set the record straight.

So you might want to read up on it and decide for yourself: https://comparemotoroils.com/shell-rotella-t4-vs-t5-vs-t6/

I've seen I believe all 3 at Walmart. So probably go T6 since I probably won't be riding much.
Thanks

There are plenty of great oils , but only a few with a additive package suitable for a big single with a wet clutch. Research has been done.
T4 Dino or T6 Syn.

Hope I didn’t hurt any feelings  :P
