Title: A whine as clutch engages ?
Post by Evanswv on 04/14/22 at 14:20:12

I have a low mileage 2004 Savage, and have noticed that every since I bought it ,I have heard a very brief (split second) whine while down shifting into 2nd or 1st. I just chalked it up to the nature of the bike . I had been riding with a full face helmet that really muffled sound. I have recently switched to my 3/4 helmet with full shield because the weather has gotten warmer. It picks up a lot of noise, and I have heard the sound in other gears. It's so brief, and just in the split second that the clutch grabs. It sounds almost musical.  My bike is quite, and I couldn't hear it with aftermarket muffler. Is this normal? Could it be the springs in the pressure plate stretching as it grabs?, Assuming it has springs?  I appreciate all input. Thanks

It's probably the belt.  I'd check the front drive pulley to make sure it's not loosening.

My bike has always made a bit of a primary drive whine when decelerating.......16,000 miles and it hasn't resulted in any problems.  No metal in the drained oil, no obvious issues.....just a little whine as the torque on the gears changes.

I stopped thinking about it 15,000 miles ago! :)
