Title: Steering stem bearing removal
Post by Dan P on 03/29/22 at 07:03:46

I have a question, I did check the Tech section but couldn't find an answer.
Does anyone have a trick to removing the needle bearing from the lower triple clamp without damaging it ? I looked and the rubber seal under the bearing isn't listed or appear to be available. I want to powder coat the lower triple and the bearing needs to be removed prior.
Thank you, Dan P

I am not sure it can be removed without damaging it, as it is pressed on.  There may be some type of bearing puller that would be the right configuration to get it off, but it would more than likely cost more than replacing the bearing.

Look at bearing tools for hydraulic presses.

Search

Press bearing off

If you can haul the part to a shop, most mechanics have a press.

Appreciate the response. I'm hoping someone has figured it out ?
I was going to put it in the freezer, but both parts are metal so they will react the same ?   If I have to i'll just get another one, but I didn't see the rubber seal being a part listed ?

That bearing is Suzuki p/n 09265-30009, its a 30X55X17 tapper bearing. The Suzuki part is $45, the generic part will be 1/2 that.

Even if you can successfully remove it from the steering stem, you may not notice the imperfections you've created by prying it off. It's not worth the danger of a locked steering stem - if you need to remove it, replace it.

New bearings come with the seals and the outer races.
These are the ones I'm getting:

Thanks  youzguyz  for replying.  I decided to go that route and ordered those same bearing set from Amazon this morning.
So going all new and not worrying about it anymore.
