Title: Chunk of metal and shavings in Carb
Post by Savagez123 on 11/02/21 at 12:15:16

Hello all.

95 Savage, 24k miles, Owned for three years.

I was going about 70mph when the engine shut down (rattling noise, smoke, coasted to the side of road).

The guy at the shop said it was likely blown rings, as there was oil coming out of the exhaust. However, upon removing the carb I found a huge chunk of metal an many shavings. (see pics).

I was planning to hone and replace rings for the fix, but the shavings and chunk of metal seem like a larger issue.

Is this a scrap situation?

Please advise. Thanks.

Used engines aren't that expensive.
If you didn't wreck the jug,A complete head unit with the head cover that it was wearing when the factory punched the hole for the cam will be more likely to work out than buying a head and sticking another head cover on. That Can work out, but it can also not work great.
As long as the piston isn't holed and it didn't lose anything from under that went into the crankcase, then worry about junk having messed stuff up Down in There is not an issue.
If the engine just wound down but didn't clank and cease to turn, that would be good.
Okay, less Crappy..
Sorry to hear it,
