Title: Winter is upon us and... 18" wheels?
Post by RallyCalle on 11/02/21 at 09:01:13

Hi!
Just bought a Savage as extra curricular activity at home(when not in the garage with all the other projects...). Probably building a scrambler. I have quite a few things to start with. But also a few questions.

The firs one is:
Looking around for 18" 2.5 36H rim at a lokal bike shop i got a question if I know any bike that has it have i as standard. A place for them to start looking..? Do you know where I shuld start looking? A make and model that is...

Well let´s rip it apart... after 15 years in storage  :o

I'd be looking for an early 80's GS450 thru 650
If it uses the same brake shoe, it's likely has a compatible brake hub.
And if the drive hub looks the same, it probably is.

I went the expensive route and sent my hubs to Buchanon's Spoke & Rim.

I buy from Buchanon's, but lace and true myself.

I got my stuff from Mikes XS.  Buchanan confirmed the spoke length and drill pattern for the rear wheel was the same.  Unfortunately, the wheel wasn't drilled very well and it took a lot of "adjusting" to build up. In the end, my wheel didn't build up all that great, but I'm still using it so...

What's important to understand is that you can't just grab any old 18" rim that is drilled for the tiny hubs used by modern off-road bikes.

Great! Thank you for the info! I'm in Sweden so I'll ether have the shop make me a new set or lace it myself. They have a bunch of old wheels they try to scavenge for rims :) - trying to read up on it on this wonderful forum  ;D so far I think it's 4mmx125mm spokes. Needs to be drilled at at the right angel.

So started taring it apart yesterday and I want to raise the rear end of the tank about 1".  Turns out the petrol tap hits the frame... anyone know an easy solution?
It's always fun to start a project, especially when you find out all the shortcuts the previous owner took  :P

I have an 18" Excell rim from Buchanan's that is lightly used I will sell.....it needs a new set of spokes, and I also have a polished hub.

I also have a complete 18x2.15 front wheel assembly and polished hub.

Where are you located?  Shipping would sure at a lot to the cost.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm in Sweden so the cost of shipping would be an issue. Great if it would work though :)
Mayby you could pm me an estimate?

Oh… and bought a raptor fuel tap. Hopefully it won’t hit the frame :)
