Title: Clunk in transmission in second on downshift
Post by Dan Stafford on 10/03/21 at 07:34:33

Hey all… well it’s been raining in Louisiana so I couldn’t stand it, I started fooling with my clutch cable and nuts fraud and now when I’m coming to a stop it’ll downshift fine through third when I hit second it doesn’t act like it engages all the way. And I hear a slight clunking…[ch128534]

I don’t know what nuts fraud is? Shift rod is what it was supposed to say

If you moved the linkage on the spline where it comes out of the tranny, you could have the rod hitting the bottom of the left side case. The way to adjust the shifter positon is to change the length of the rod. You DON'T want to change the spline positon. Most bikes have a small center punch on the shaft where the split goes.

Spell check probably got you.

You probably typed 'sh!tf rod' and spell check might of changed it to 'sh!t fraud'
The YABB software will change 'sh!t' to nuts.

Note; ! is i

They come and they go.
best to get your order in if that's what you want.

Also, lets say the gear shift wasn't centerpunched? What is the orientation of  re-install?

As close to a right angle as possible......between the centerline of the arm and the rod that goes to the shift pedal.

The O-ring in the clutch cover that the clutch rod goes through costs a lot less than the irritation of it leaking is worth. If you are in there, pull it out, go to the hardware store and get a new one. You can ask me how I know, but I'm pretty sure you already know.

This is the alignment punch mark so you can get a good feel for the orientation.

Make sure the link rod doesn't hit the underside of the case, like this.  However, this type of interference would hinder upshifts, not downshifts.

Make sure the shift lever doesn't hit the frame.  Same comment, interference here would hinder upshifts.
