Timing tensioner mod and hardened chain. Foam filter. Designer clutch springs and red frictions. Bobbed. Tall, heavy shocks. Rebuilt forks with Harley sportster springs. New bearings in the triple tree. New handle bars filled with silicone. Fat grips (1.25" grips on metal inch grips). New controls, mirrors, and light. Seat made from car seat foam and a skate board. TSC ( Tractor Supply) rear fender. Ford Model A tail light. Remounted OEM turn signals. Wrapped exhaust. Jardine muffler. All but the neutral safety removed. Working on: Aluminum wheels, and chain drive. 17 tooth front and 42 and 45 rear sprockets, 530 chain. Upcoming soon: Intruder 800 front triple tree and speedometer. Mount the front aluminum wheel. Modify the existing tank to hold more fuel. Next, (Hopefully next year): Wiseco high compression piston and a cam change. A whole lot of thanks to everyone here. Especially our resident modified and performance parts guys. |

Occasional light and brief contact is not so much of a big deal (still not good), but a constant rubbing will wear through it faster than you might think. |

Title: Re: GS450 Wheel on back issue Post by Fast 650 on 07/05/21 at 10:41:31 You can cut out the gas tank where the old speedometer was and weld over the opening to gain some more fuel capacity since you are going with the Intruder speedometer. Having the trip odometer is a nice benefit of that swap too. The dash indicator lights are different than the Savage though. Intruders use a single turn indicator and have an oil pressure light. I moved the lenses around to have the two turn indicators in the top row and neutral and hi-beam in the bottom row. Use the Savage light harness and extend the wires to reach. The Intruder harness is different and won't work without modifying it. The lenses are different because of the oil pressure light, and they have locating tabs so they will only go in one way and that does not match up to the Savage layout. Just snip off the tabs and you can place the lenses wherever you wish then. And you will need a second turn indicator lens to replace the oil pressure lens otherwise you will have one amber and one red idiot light for turn signals. If you want to go for that extra bit of finesse, get one of those clear decal kits for inkjet or laser printers and print out LEFT, RIGHT, NEUTRAL, and HIGH decals to go over the lenses before you reassemble it. ;) |

I'm running the relay ground through the clutch switch. I added turn signals I can see so that's good too. I'll eventually get the neutral safety back working and use the light again. My bike is far from stock wiring wise. Eventually I'll get some new OEM type wire and redo it with fewer splices, and good soldered ones at that. |

I was planning on starting that project this summer but my wife had other plans for me. haha I don't think mine are tubeless. I only remember seeing one other person on here trying to use the 18" cast wheel and they couldn't figure out the spacers. I figured you would need to have them machined to length or cobble something together like you did. |

The Savage speedometer cable is too short to reach to the Intruder speedometer if you don't. Someone makes (or did make) an extension for the Savage cable to reach to the handlebars. Or the tach cable for a 70's GT750 will work too. |

I put the GS speedometer in a soup can to be able to mount it if I do use it. I will use the GS hub and intruder speedometer together if it works. |
