Title: I do love the little S40 Post by springman on 06/11/21 at 07:27:59 Since the Hill Country ride I have just been riding the Shadow Spirit 1100. Well, I decided to ride the Suzuki to work today and oh how I loved it. I think I had never realized just how smooth the Suzuki is. Sure, it is not as fast and does not accelerate as quickly but it is so smooth and nimble and (for Dave) quiet, or hot. The exhaust pipe by your thigh on the Spirit makes it a really hot bike in the hot weather. I think the Spirit may be taking a bit of a breather until fall. It is amazing, ride something else for a few weeks and when you come back to the Savage you will appreciate it that much more! |

For that kind of riding in the twisties, it really doesn't matter if I have 30HP or 120HP - I ride at the same (speed limit on the straights and traction limit in the curves). The bikes all ran great and were well suited for the mountains. One evening we were headed home and having a nice peaceful ride on Wolfpen Gap. I was leading and just after we crested the hill - I saw 3 additional headlights catching up to us. There isn't any good places to pass, and I didn't want to hold these guys up - so I picked up the pace and MM and Stew did the same. Before long I noticed the extra headlights were falling back. When we got to the bottom of the hill and stopped for gas - the 3 fellows pulled in behind us. The fellow on the Triumph came up and bumped fists with me.....the fellow on the Yamaha FJ09 went and talked to MM. He said when they came up behind us they wondered where they could pass - but soon that changed to them wondering why they couldn't keep up! ;D The Savage is a great bike.......and with some tinkering it can do about anything you need done! |

I'll go for periods of not riding and then get back on the bike and realize how great of a bike it is, especially with a few mods and the upgraded front pulley. I'll ride the little Ninja 250 and then get back on the S40 and appreciate that low center of gravity handling and torque. I expect to sell the Ninja one day and upgrade to a slightly bigger sport/touring bike of some sort but the S40 is at its forever home ;) |

I tried to push start it and the only thing that I was successful in there was pulling my glute. Yes, I am in pain and hobbling around. I guess you could say it turned out be a royal pain in the a$$. ;) |

I knew I had to have another Savage. Bought one the other day. The satisfaction in riding a Savage again is undescribable. I have a Kawa front pulley I'd purchased for the o2 Savage. I'll have to study up and put it on soon. I'll start there. See where that leads. So yeah, spring man; you're right about the Savage. It's what I call "an everyday bike" all ways~ |

When you age a bit it seems we gain weight but we start losing cylinders. Then we wind up riding thumpers again , something primitive yet comforting about them. I noticed this trend many years ago and seems to still be true. I consider riding a thumper to be the essence of motorcycling , comfort food for the soul. But had my 02 Sportster out yesterday and had a ball , actually had it airborne over my new favorite R/R crossing a long low jump on the down side on a 505 lb bike , Big Fun Tracker is still in progress |

I had a Shinko 712 on the back in 120/90-16 and wanted a skinny front to match it. Well Shinko 712 don't come in 90/90-19 ... but ... the Shinko 250 does and it looks a lot like the 712. Well , it seems like the S-250 is wearing like iron (I use the front brake for 99.9 % of the stopping needs) (saves on rear tire wear) , and it still looks new and the rear 712 is slick ... so ... I got a Shinko 250 in 130/90-16 for the new rear. It looks almost just like the 712 but I'm thinking it might last longer ? I'll let ya know by the end of this year ! :-? Yea , I went tubeless a few year back (16" rear) |
