Title: Grease needs between rotor and stator assembly?
Post by kylejang on 03/04/21 at 09:49:57

Hi all. I disassembled generator cover for polishing and found out between rotor and stator has some kind of silver color thing applied. I cleaned up. Do I need apply some kind of special grease or paste when I reassemble? Please let me know. Thank you always.

Dear. Norm93de
Do you know what is this sliver color things? Super fine worn out metal mixed with oil?

I don't know but I don't like the sound of it.

Maybe somebody can hazard a guess.

Let me clear again found sliver color things, it feels like light texture of copper anti-seize was found inside of rotor ring surface where stator meet. It could be silver grade anti-seize? Does anyone knows?

There is nothing that is "applied" to those parts.  Anything that is on those has come from the combustion byproducts or engine wear.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as it is very fine and there are no "chunks" of metal.  The magnetic field could be pulling small particles out of the oil.

Thank you Dave. Is it ok to use brake cleaner to clean inside? Or just use clean rag to clean? I clean some but haven't clean completely.

Is this a bike you purchased used?

Never-Seize is a gray/silver looking grease. It's possible that someone used never-seize during reassembly wand didn't clean it up well.

I would not spray brake cleaner on the surface. I'd spray the cleaner on a rag (lightly) and wipe it clean.
