Title: Handlebar change
Post by Slowlane on 01/01/21 at 09:42:09

I have a 2009 S40 Calif model.
I want to change from my stock bars to the older pull-back handlebars from the 2004 model.
I know I need the handlebars and the risers.  What else would I need to make this change?  Thanks, Slowlane

New grips if you can't get the old ones of easily and have to cut them.

I have grips, handlebars, risers and mirrors from an '05 I'd send to you for shipping cost, if they'd work for you.

Would love to have them....are they the old "buckhorn" pull-back style?

I'll get the stuff out and take pics in the next day or so.

Grips come off pretty easy with compressed air. Take a small screwdriver and pry up end of grip. Work it in as best you can working around perimeter of the bar. Put a straight needle tip, not a small one for inflating a ball, on blower and insert it in under grip. Start blowing air in and it will lift grip and you can work it off. It is neccesary to work needle tip around under grip as you do it. It doesn't require neccesarily high pressure. Same works for putting it back on.

Here's the majority of the stuff I've got, plus muffler, belt guard and a wind screen.

I'll post over in the marketplace thread in a couple days, but let me know if you're interested in the bars and risers. Not looking to make anything on them.

gtenginerd, Are they front or rear turn signals? I suspect they are front, but if rear I would be interested.

They are front. Whole rear fender is hopefully coming off this winter. Will try to keep you posted.

You are going to need a longer brake line. I swapped with a guy with a '94. Mine is an ' 05.  Swapped them out. No problems. Watching the unemployed Harley mechanic do all the work for 50 bucks, priceless.  :D

These came in yesterday.  I think they are going to be a big change if I can get all the cables/hoses and wiring right.http://

@Lancer Looks like $10-$20 for shipping. If you want exact, I'll need to see what size box they'll fit in at the post office.

@slowlane I made a similar change, but less rise in the bar, also switched the riser and the cables, etc all worked out. Just had to drill a small hole to the dimple in the controls to sink into the bar. I'm probably not using the right wording, but it'll make sense once you take the bar off.

Lancer,

I think your cables will be same as mine ...too short.

I would like to buy your carb kit....left you a PM.

Thanks, Slowlane
