Title: Countless American votes Post by Eegore on 11/06/20 at 07:15:41 Texas GOP Rep. Will Hurd Twitter posting: "A sitting president undermining our political process & questioning the legality of the voices of countless Americans without evidence is not only dangerous & wrong, it undermines the very foundation this nation was built upon, every American should have his or her vote counted." "Countless" Americans have every vote "counted"? I found that logic amusing, but overall I agree. |

Title: Re: Countless American votes Post by eau de sauvage on 11/06/20 at 08:08:51 Trump: STOP THE CoUNT. Everyone: we're doing our best sir. What I find puzzling is that so many Trump supporters care more about Trump than the actual democracy. Maybe we need a new against China and the strongmen that Trump so admires, in order to understand why we fight those wars. Which brings up the irony of Trump trying to stop the counting of the votes of the servicemen and women who put their lives on the line for the very democracy that so many seem to not think is as important as some petty political Pyrrhic victory. |

I challenge the assertion that voting is a right. I contend voting is a privilege. Just because you’re 18 and a US citizen, I don’t feel that automatically qualifies you as having the privilege to vote for those who represent us in government. |

Title: Re: Countless American votes Post by eau de sauvage on 11/06/20 at 14:10:13 I found that logic amusing, but overall I agree. It's not about logic, it's about not using the word literally, so that 'countless' simply means 'a large number'. Similar how 'decimate' is not used in it's literal meaning of 10%. I challenge the assertion that voting is a right. Is "I challenge..." being used like the way Trump pronounces "I hereby blah blah blah..." in order to give some gravitas to nonsense? Or maybe you're just joking. If not who doles out this privilege. The obverse of a "right" is a "duty", one persons right, is the other person's duty. You have a right to be protected from illegal acts against you, and you have a duty to abide by the laws. If voting is not a right then the voter therefore does not have any duties related to this right. Sounds a lot to me like the very antithesis of the freedom you claim to cherish. But please do explain what you actually mean. |

Funny. Seriously though, why not? Why not a couple simple procedures that demonstrate a minimum level of engagement? Actually, the process of registering to vote and then showing up in person to vote probably accomplishes that to a degree but I feel like there should be one additional step. I’m not sure what that step should be however. |
