Been sitting since 2014.
I'm not like the guys on T.V.who will hook up a battery and fire on up. I know that six cylinder,vertical cylinder walls, needs oil shot in there,,
I'm trying to decide if I go buy something
Or use the compressor to blast some oil in.
My plan
Blast oil in the cylinders
Let it soak for a day.
Bar it over and feel of it
Put the battery to it and spin it
Install plugs and hit it..

Words from you guys would BE appreciated .

I'm not the best qualified to answer this, but yes. Pull the plugs, shoot some oil in there, let is soak over night, shoot some more oil in there, turn it over a few times without the plugs and if all sounds good, put the plugs back in and fire it up. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply,, I think just blowing some motor oil in and letting it sit would work, noting that hydro_locking is bad form..

I'm gonna give this a chance to get anyone who would disagree to post..

I don't have personal experience with this, but .....

Most instructions on the internet say to squirt
Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders.

But your engine may not have been sitting long
enough to require a special oil like that.

Excellent, I have plenty of that.
That's what goes in the air tools.
I feel better about that oil..

Muh 29 year old neighbor came down, pulled the plugs,, and boy were they messed up looking,, used a battery water bulb, put a bit of oil in the holes, pumped some air in, making a mist, pulled the fuel lines from the frame mounted filter,, stunk like crap...
So now I'm a bit concerned about what the injectors are gonna deal with if I don't find a way to flush the fuel rail..
Tomorrow, if I have a good day, we will use a ratchet and spin the motor,, if there are no odd feelings of resistance, then the starter will spin it, then new plugs go in.. and we hit the starter..

Unless some genius recommends I figure a way to flush the fuel rail..
I'm thinking pull the most forward injector and at least blowing the rail out..

Most all fuel injection systems have a Schader valve on the rail . With fresh fuel in tank just turn key to on which will activate fuel pump , just depress valve till fresh fuel comes out. No smoking and be careful !

Ford's lightbulb was busted the day they built this on.
That Schrader valve is on the back end of the rail.
Leaving the rail looking like a crap trap..

But front end high, and air up the rail..
Probably get everything out, I'll Hafta look at it again, see if I have access.

My first question is :

What's in the crankcase ? You really don't want to start or circulate 6 year old oil in you motor do you ?
I'd put a new filter on it too. ;)

My second thought is :

Plugs out
Some really thin oil on top the pistons to help free the rings from there rusty places on the cylinder walls soaking for at least a day is a good idea.

Third thought :

Some STP in the new crankcase oil to fill the pits in the rusty metal parts is a good thing. Rust can act like sanding compound till its polished a bit , so spinning the motor for a nice long while might be a good idea.

Fourth thing : After it starts and idles for the first heat-up cycle --- might be a good time to put a new oil filter on it. A $8.00 oil filter at the right time might be $$$ well spent . :)

That's all I got , and is exactly what I would do in your place.

Sounds smart,
I was gonna let it start on the old oil, but, you're right,, I shouldn't.
I'm gonna spin it with the battery before I start it,
So, I'll change oil and filter,
Spin it till I get oil pressure
Fire it up
See how it acts.

Not sure how I feel about Lucas or STP , I wouldn't know how much to use,
IIRC that little six banger holds six quarts..
Would you think I should use a quart of STP ?

I would first crank it over and get oil pressure. You don't want to take the filter off.....and then have to pump the filter full of oil before any of the bearings get oil.

What kind of truck is this.....how many mile are on it?

Modern engine aren't built for thick oil - adding STP or Lucas may not be a great idea for and engine that still has tight bearing surfaces. What weight oil does this engine use (according to the owners manual or the top of the oi cap).

87 F150, 300 six banger, four speed,,
Can't remember miles
Been Running 15/40, but what the book calls for I don't remember.
Next time the hood is up I will look
At the 710 cap.

yea , I'm running 5 quarts of Mobil 1 / 0w40 in my truck . With one pt. of STP.

The slickest stuff I can think of !

It pours like water , but a drop of it between my finger and thumb can't be rubbed through ! Ya , got-a wipe it off to get rid of it . :)

It's got 55,6xx miles on it, best I can tell, seats/carpet don't look like 155k,,
But that's such a low mileage for a 33 year old truck,, maybe I'm not the only one who parked it?
I don't know what Ford said was proper oil.
