Title: Dies after 10 mins but starts again
Post by turnersid74 on 10/11/20 at 02:50:42

Bike worked fine but started noticing that sputters round 80km then lately died while riding and no way of firing it up, after it cooled down started again but died after 10 mins....no spark. There is current till the coil connectors but no spark. Any help would be great altough nobody replies ever to my posts I must be very unpopular

Are you sure it's not running the bowl out of gas?

Have you added a filter?

How Old is it?
Miles?

How are you proving you have no spark?

First and foremost thanks for replying, its a 1995 have 68k Km on the clock and no filter,  starts but after a 10 min ride it stops, I took out tank checked the spark and no spark, leave it for some time and starts again till no spark again. Cleaned and checked all connectors aswell, I might be wrong but am thinkin is the coil when it gets hot cuts the spark

There are plenty of guys here who can offer you much better advice than I can, so I'm gonna step back and wait to see what they say.
You can check spark by pulling the wire and sticking it on another plug, no tank to pull,, you can also modify a head cover chrome piece, making a swing away door,

I'd say blocked tank vent,... except for the no spark bit.
If it's losing spark,.. start with a new spark plug.
I always try the cheapest, easiest cures first. ;)

I tried a new plug but no joy, tank vent ?

The gas cap vents air to allow the gas to flow,.. if the vent gets plugged up, the bike will repeatedly die after a few miles because the fuel can't flow without venting.
Next time she dies, try removing the gas cap... if you hear a sucking sound, the cap is plugged up.
It should start right back up once the pressure is released.

Is he running the Suzuki stock vac petcock?    If the answer is yes, have him change it out then troubleshoot his bike again after a solid week of Raptor use.

Kinda boils down to
Exactly how are you proving you don't have spark?
When in doubt, not being certain of the problem, is it fuel or spark, a whif of ether under the seat, aimed at the intake snorkel, can hand you a clue.
You can also drain the carb bowl into a container,, see what's in there..
Or, run on prime and see if anything changes..

I would have guessed a fuel issue until you said "no spark".  I would still make sure you have a good petcock, preferably a raptor unit.

Oldfeller/Ohiomoto am running on Raptor. As for spark am checking it the old school way touching the plug to the body. Spark cuts of when engine starts getting hot  why I still believe its the coil, I ordered one hopefully this week arrives and see.

turnersid74,

I think your diagnosis is correct. An intermittent spark as the engine warms is almost always the coil.

Hopefully coil is coming this week and will let you know ;)
