Title: New Rider - Again; Southern Ontario, Canada
Post by walterpump on 10/09/20 at 16:17:44

So two weeks ago I bought a nifty 2005 S40/Boulevard, at the age of 79!!!  Just loving it.  About five years ago I sold my bike (a Savage - ha, ha) and decided that was the end of my riding days.  Well, I changed my mind so I am back at it.  Weather here in Southern Ontario Canada is still good for riding a lot of the days.  Today's ride temp was +10C (52F) and mostly sunny.  Cheers Guys & Gals.

Fellow Southern Ontarian here... man that thing is clean, my '93 is more of a rat rod  ;)

Today was even better, a nice balmy 20+ degrees ..it was a great day to ride and check for oil leaks!

Thanks Keifer:
Yes, pretty mild today.  I passed on riding due to the wind and possibility of rain, but I saw several riders out my window.  Good for you getting out there.

I live in Kentucky.....it is hard for me to consider that you can use the adjective "southern" when describing any place that lies so far north of me!
:-?

Ride until you are 89, then decide if you want to continue riding.

Hi Dave:
I bet the temperature is warmer in Kentucky - ha, ha.
We say Southern Ontario to differentiate from Northern Ontario.  It is a huge province taking usually two days of steady driving (or riding) to get from end to end.
Cheers and happy riding.

Hi jcstokes:
You got it.  Just keep on riding - eh.
If I get one or two years in that's great.  If I get five more so much the better.  Every time I'm out riding and give the wave to a passing rider I have a grin on my face.  Takes me back to when I was 18 and 19 and 20.

Congratulations on still riding at age 79.  Your bike is quite handsome...My Blvd is a different year but the same color combo.  I also "quit" riding a couple of years ago, but resumed riding at 84 earlier this year....My health is such that I take only very short rides these days...(Not more than ten miles and not very often.)  There is something really good and freeing about riding at any age.

I wish you several more years of good health so that you can continue to ride.

Bob

Thanks so much Bob for commenting on my post.  84 wow.  So that means I have maybe 5 more years - ha, ha.  Good on you man.  I read once that even if one never rides their bike anymore, just knowing it is there, and they could, or even have it prompt memorys just by sitting there is enough.  I believe that.
Went out today for an hour and a half here in Southern Ontario, Canada, where temp rose to +14C = 60F, with sun shining and little wind - awesome.  Forecast is for the next 5 days to be the same - Yahoooooo!

Hi Keifer:  Yup, next 5 to 7 days will be riding days.  Will be out on my bike again today.  Go for some gas then ride for an hour or so through Prince Edward County - maybe down to Picton.  Hope to spend some time through the winter doing a few things to my bike, starting with installing a digital dash - Trail Tech Vapor - which will give me some cool features: a tach, a tripmeter, clock, temp, and a second speedometer.
Ride on man and enjoy these next few days.
