Title: R.I.P. Eddie
Post by Ruttly on 10/06/20 at 14:46:29

The hits just keep coming in 2020 and in my book this is a big hit. Today  Eddie Van Halen passed away from a long battle with cancer. Seen him play 4 times , 3 with David Lee Roth , once with Sammy Hagar . A true guitar god , watching him play was like going to church!
Rest In Peace Eddie , you will have good company where your going.

A sad day for anyone who ever picked up a guitar. He and Mick Taylor were my inspiration to learn how to play. It will take some time to get over this. I can still hear his guitar riffs in my head. Cancer sucks. :'(

I guess 2020 just wants to dish out all its lumps before the year ends.

Even if the style of music isn't what you're into, you just have to appreciate true mastery and talent.  While he didn't invent the double-tapping style, he perfected it and put it to the best use possible.  He rose to fame at such a young age.
I grew up listening to Van Halen and other rock bands of that era, and it's a sad loss.  Read a couple articles this weekend, and found it interesting he started out on drums, got frustrated that he couldn't master a particular riff to Wipeout and traded instruments with his brother (guitar for drums).  The rest is rock and guitar history.
R.I.P Eddie.  Rock on.

This is literally (my actual copy...) the first cassette I bought in 1984 and the only cassette or CD I still own.  Saw them in concert on the 2008-ish tour. Eddie is truly a genius with a skill set that can't be matched. It was nice to see that his son and ex Valerie were by his side and they were able to put their differences aside.

EVH was a muliti-instrumentalist in addition to being a guitar god. He was very adept on a number of different instruments. As a keys player I always enjoyed this Van Halen song.

He was always an inventive musician and always turned out music that sounded fresh and new unlike the formulaic rehashed crap today's music industry regurgitates over and over.

RIP EVH
