Title: How to make a EMGO muffler quieter?
Post by TheBrendan312 on 09/03/20 at 10:32:20

hello I was wondering if there is anyway to make a EMGO Shorty Reverse Cone Muffler any more quiet. The pipe that I got is pretty darn loud and im looking for the cheapest option available to make it more quiet.

I had the regular shorties on my old Triumph.  They had removable baffles.  I would wrap them with motocross silencer packing (not fiberglass insulation it won't last more than a few weeks).

If that fails, Dyna muffler time.   :)

I have a baffle in my shorty that allows me to remove 3 bolts to adjust to volume.

Add a crumb cup in the inlet side and the outlet side. Adds some back pressure but just enough to break up the noise and they are cheap ! In the plumbing department, kitchen sink stuff. Screw or rivet them in place or tack weld .

Ive used a bunch of these drop in baffles. They work pretty good.

Goes between your pipe and the muffler. Just drop it in and reattach the springs.  That is if you haven't welded them together already.

This insert is made for the Emgo Reverse Cone muffler.

It has 3 bolts in the center that are removable so you can adjust the sound and back pressure.

this looks like the Cone Engr muffler that I have on beast, not extremely quiet, seems to be similar to a dyna.

That Emgo core baffle is cool but $50 wow. 2 crumb cups $10. If I learned anything in my time here at SS , I have learned to be frugal , stingy , one cheap as$ , ;D ;D ;D

Sometimes you have to consider what you time may be worth......I spend an awful lot of time building crap - as I do hate spending money needlessly.

I also have to consider that not everyone has the "cool tools" and workshop that I have, and so many motorcycle owners have to park their bikes outside and work in a parking lot or while their bikes are parked on the street.

The Emgo reverse cone is a known noise maker as delivered, and a lot of RYCA owners have had to figure out how to make it less obnoxious as that is the muffler that came with the RYCA kits.

Great option Dave and not a bad price for a permanent drop-in solution.  Figure you will spend $10-$20 a year packing a muffler plus your time.  Plus I think the less you mess with anything, the better.  Less chances to strip threads, break bolts, elongate holes, and develop exhaust leaks.

The packing material I use I bought on eBay and came from Europe is the best I’ve ever used. It supposedly doubles in size when it gets hot , seems to last a long while too ! I think I still have the Emgo that came in the Ryca kit , somewhere ! I think it came packed with something and may also have a crumb cup in it too ! Crap now I gotta go find it.
