Title: A better valve timing cover
Post by rong on 08/24/20 at 12:13:30

I'm getting close a valve check/adjustment on my bike.  In order to check the valves, it requires removing the 'valve timing inspection cover' on the left-hand side of the crankcase cover.  This cover is removed by a very 'wide flat-tipped screwdriver' or a special tool that is specifically made to remove this timing cover.  (I've also seen some 'home made tools' on this website that is used to remove the timing cover.)

My question:  Some time ago on this website, someone mentioned a timing cover from another brand of bike that could be put on the savage.  This timing cover had a 'wrench type of bolt' embedded right in the timing cover so that one could use a wrench to unscrew the timing cover.  This would make it very easy to unscrew the cover.  Could anyone tell me what brand/model of bike that had this timing cover?  It would be much easier for me to just use a wrench to unscrew the timing cover when it's time to do a valve adjustment.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Ron,
The screw in fitting you describe is from another Suzuki Boulevard. VL800 It comes in chrome and uses an Allen wrench to remove it. Try Ron Ayers for the part. Ron Ayers part #09259 36008 and o ring 09280 33004.

On my S40 I made a tool out of a large thick washer that works very well.
When replacing, only tighten a bit more than finger tight. Mine never comes loose tightened this way.

Norman.

This is the cover with an Allen Socket rather than the straight slot.
