Title: Mesh Headlight Grill Insert
Post by Wild1OR on 08/21/20 at 20:42:28

Is there a mesh headlight grill that best fits the S40 and doesn't involve replacing the headlight?

I found the following, but I'm not certain if it'll work or if it's the best option:

https://www.speedmotoco.com/5-75-wire-mesh-headlight-insert-Grill-cover-6-h-p/5.75-grill.htm

Thanks!

While we are an enthusiastic bunch of guys willing to help - at some point we have to apply our time and efforts to the most critical issues.  We are volunteers and nobody gets any compensation for the time we spend on this forum.

You have been a member for 2 days, don't yet own a Savage and are trying to determine if you want to buy a Savage.....or something else.

Is the headlight grill question really appropriate at this point of our relationship?

I determined that I'll be purchasing an S40 and I'm enthusiastic about it. As a matter of fact, I've been browsing dealership website all evening.
I mistakenly thought all conversation regarding the bike would be welcome. I also wasn't aware that participating in the forum was a chore to some members.
I won't be a bother anymore.

Don't mind Dave.  He's not trying to run you off.

I'm not sure anyone on here has a mesh insert so there is nothing for most of us to say.  I say if you like it, go for it!

No....it was not my intent to offend or run anyone off.

I just think it may be a bit too early to start worrying about Farkles for a bike you don't yet own.  (And the Savage headlight is pretty marginal and installing something that will block some light output might not be a good idea).

All the questions about vibration, load capacity, etc. have been answered in short order - we try to be helpful and informative for all new members.

Offering help and advice to those who need it is the point of the forum.
Camaraderie develops with the interaction.
Taking offense when not only was none intended, but surely the rationale for not jumping up to answer a superfluous question that surely you must know,, That isnt a
Why is it running like that?
Question
Or, Considering my size, will it handle the job?
Question,,

The answer you want would require someone to do the same kind of searching you wll need to do,, to solve it,,
Except for the few here who Have done the screen,,
Unless road conditions make a screen something that would help protect the lens from stuff,, cool lookin as they are,, I wouldnt do it, because like Dave said,, Why block any light from an already sketchy source?

If after being so well greeted and having your every question answered you choose to get offended by a straight up , truthful reply,, and you choose to walk away,, well,, Okay, BUT,, by your own admission,, youre not a mechanic,\NO motorcycle I am aware of Doesnt require maintenance,,
Hauling one to a shop and WAITING for it,, and wait you will,, during riding season, it may take a week to get a minor thing seen to, and Paying for it
an Pay you will.,
Or,, You can accept being talked to like an adult without getting all butthurt,,
I know of no othere forum where you WILL be carefully guided thru whatever youre trying to do.

I hadda do the top end of a Yamaha Raptor,, and that forum was just guys who said what they did,, but they sure wouldnt explain HOW to a newbie..

Chill, Dude,, Get ya a Savage and come on in here and lets get ya on the road..

I made one out of an old scrap piece of expanded metal...
Not the greatest pic of it, but all I could find.

Yeah, it Looks Cool,, no doubt,,
Why did ya do it?
How does it affect your night riding?
Have a taken it off and aimed the light at a garage door, stuck it on and seen what difference it makes?

Versy told me to... :-?

I only ride at night if I break down during the day. ;D
Don't think it blocks much light.

Versy told me to... Huh

Totally valid reason right there..
and it looks good, so,, Yeah,,

I almost wish he would tell me to stop with the trying to assemble a workable bike from the stuff I have and buy one,,
You spose my wife would agree that since Versy TOLD me to,, she would nod in wise agreement?

Youre gonna hafta do a recap on how that mudguard is built,,
I want one,,
Does it Do the Job,, or, if ya were gonna build it today, would ya make it bigger?

And yeah,, your bike has several things that nobody else has that make it a totally outstanding Savage,,

That its being ridden by a Muppet must surely get a TON of attention,,

Looks good Serowbot.  I don't remember seeing the grill before.

JOG,  you need to stop screwing around with that wrecked bike.  Buy another one and part it out.  You'll probably be further ahead.  ;)

I really havent even started,, Im just in the process of gatherin up parts,,
If my dammmed back wasnt so sketchy, and my shoulders so damaged,, I could get some stuff done,, REally cant afford to dump a load of cash into a buke,, or Id just go buy one and put a
Come get whatever ya want
notice in the marketplace and lose the goodies I dont really want,, at seriously discounted prices,,

Reelthing sold me a lot of stuff, and a whole bike,, but the tubes are just one long string of rusty pits.. I expect no matter what I did, short of disassembly, seriously cleaning, degreasing and squeegying JB weld into the pits to make the chrome edges slip by the seals,, it wold be gushing oil in a week,, So Im gonna get tubes from Blake,,

I rather like it, but I haven't put one on.  Heck, I haven't bought a savage yet, so I can't speak to whether it works or not.  Might be helpful if like me you find lots of gravel trucks running around, I've had plenty of rocks hit my helmet over the years.  Never cracked my headlight lens (yet).  When the time comes, I'll probably get one of these, though.  I intend to build a light scrambler. Plenty of rocks in the desert!

I took a couple pics of my homemade mesh grill and mudflap in case anyone's interested.

Grill open,.. ignore the bugs...
(the fasteners are a couple of those bendy things that hold the wiring harness in place,... works pretty well)

Mudflap close-up...
(that's running floor mat sold at Ace Hardware by the running ft.... it's pretty cheap useful stuff)...

in an emergency, you could use that to grill the catch of the day... or a rather large bug.
