If RYCA battery box...you will have to remove seat to remove battery.  2 bolts and 2 nuts.

Depending how it was done, It may be a pain to access them.

I have a Ryca with a Benelli copy tank, built by some one else. The nuts holding the tank and seat on (together) are difficult to get to. I had to modify the seat mounting bracket so I could get  better access to them.

They are towards the rear of the tank, almost UNDER the tank. You'll have to remove both side panels and use an open wrench and make small turns to remove them. It sucks.

That's why I suggested just the left side cover. If you simply need to charge the battery, the left side cover is the easiest access. If you need to swap out the battery, you'll need to remove the seat.[/quote]

Fat fingers are not a bonus for this task. Once you do it...you’ll devise a “way”.

are the side covers stuck on with tape?

No, each has two fasteners; a thumb screw below the battery box and a thumb screw on the face of the battery box facing the carb.
