Title: clutch slipping
Post by nickbilljim on 03/10/20 at 07:36:42

I have installed 1 of Lancers pistons a D R 650 cam  and a couple of other mods and increased the power quite a lot, the engine is great but the clutch slips, its a newish clutch with 25k on the clock.
What is the ( Yoda clutch mod)?
I have put in heavy duty clutch springs and it still slips.
Any advice would be appreciated

Take it down and 220 grit finish sand the steel plates and lightly hand sand the fiber plates (after solvent and hot soapy water wash) and you will likely find enough room in your basket to stick in a Yoda performance clutch mod (extra used steel and used fiber plate).

The extra height of your +1 stack is greater than the spacer washer would be, so you won't need the washer.  Plus you get 25% extra main plate action at the higher spring rate.

Or you can spend $110 for a Barnett Performance clutch pack .....

;D

Your pick, of course.

PM me after you verify you have enough room in your basket

my original discs are not worn but I ordered A new steel plate and friction plate, put them in the basket when refitted to the bike there is no freeplay to release the clutch.
Ihave been looking at a Barnett clutch kit ,the discs are the same  width as standard and there is the same amount of discs as standard so why will the barnett kit work better than standard.
It has also been suggested to put the extra steel plate in the bottom of the basket because the aluminium gets worn,if I try that surely the steel disc will rub against basket bottom making things worse.
I have already spent $130 on the clutch and it still slips
please help many thanks

Friction plates are absolutely clean and no glazing ?
If so, try heavier springs if you haven’t already.

have tried E B C heavy duty springs supposed to be 15% stronger??I am wondering if the barnett springs would be any stronger

1) You said you sanded the steel plates ,but did you clean the fiber plates in gasoline ,soap and water and lightly sand and allow them to dry and oil them before installing?  2) you didn't have room for both an added steel and fiber ( your fiber plates would have to be worn almost to the service limit to allow this) ,so it makes sense to add only a steel . 3) semi synthetic oil is no better than regular oil ,it's a rip off , use regular oil or a full synthetic, and check to make sure the oil use doesn't contain Moly, 4) don't shim the clutch springs, just make sure the springs are of equal free height and in the service limit. 5) the rod should be between 12 and 12.5 mm  6) be sure to lift the arm near horizontal when reinstalling the side case ,so that the end of the rod engages the throwout ,rather than slipping between it and the case and jamming, not allowing to move.

Not Moly 4 ,just Moly . If you haven't got access to Rotella T4 or T6, Moble V twin would be good.

If your clutch is slipping, you might wanna listen to the people who ride these..

Ditch the oil with moly.

Ditch the Troy Lee ,the Lucas site states Not for use with wet clutches.
