Installed a new 6" window drag bar on my '03' last night. The torque spec in manual for the handle bar clamp is 13-20 nm. This assumes it is an OEM with knurls, the new bar has none. Just soliciting opinions from those with better knowlenge about this sort of thing as to if that is sufficient. Don't want to risk potential over torque of the steel bolt into the cast aluminum. In end I torqued it to in the area of 19nm.

I had and additional thought of boring a small hole from rear, through the clamp spread and into the bar and installing an 1/8" expansion pin to assure no chance of rotation. Is that overkill?

If you have trouble getting them tight, put a couple small pieces of emery cloth tween the bars and clamps rough side toward the chrome. It will grip the bars and stop any movement.

If it doesn't act like you want
Do something different.

I used my handlebars to help me stand up for things
They never leaned back..
But when it stacked into that car at 45, they leaned forward a few inches.

You did order a  1"bar not 7/8" ?

Batman, It is a 1" bar, just no knurls. It seems very tight and secure, was just asking as I am sure others have done replacement and what they found as to tightening up on them. Since it is not an OEM thing, just curious if someone had experience with the whole thing of non-knurled mounts.

When you are setting steel bolts in aluminum castings, did not want to risk over torque and stripping the clamp base. Since they are a cinch pull, some pressure on one fastner, some on the other, it's easy to ramp it too far. The whole alignmemnt for torque wrench with the crossbar in the way reqired a toggle on the torque wrench, that always makes me a little neverous.

My thoughts were more about over tightening and the chroming having a fail which could create slip under the clamp.

Q:  Do you stand up on this bike?  Are you riding motocross?  Do drag bars even have rise on them?

A: No, No, & No

I really can't see how you'll ever put enough leverage on these bars to rotate them in the clamps.

Hey Everyone, thanks for the feedback. They are tight and seem very secure. I like the idea of a one piece rise and bar, much more option then the high risers and drag bar on the later models like my 2011. I chose to push it forward a bit. When I get it all together I will post a photo.
