Title: Any Disadvantage to Snorkel Removal? Post by d3adrock on 12/21/19 at 10:35:51 Hi, I'm pretty sure i'd like to remove the snorkel from the airbox filter for improved airflow (I have a delkevic exhaust), as well as the fact that i'll probably be moving my rectifier down there. Are there any disadvantages to removing it I should be aware of? Thanks! |

Title: Re: Any Disadvantage to Snorkel Removal? Post by batman on 12/21/19 at 12:28:31 The rectifier /regulator, produces more amps than the bike uses to run, the extra,( two amps ? ) being used to recharge your battery after starting, but once the battery is fully charged ,this power must be shed . That happens by the regulator sending it through the high resistance iron finned body of the R/R ( Changing it to heat) to a negative ground, your metal rear fender, to complete the circuit. If you move the R/R to the air box( Plastic) ,it would be a good idea to mount it on a small metal plate and run a ground wire from the plate to the frame/engine case or the battery ground terminal, to be sure of proper function, or not over charging the battery. |

And don’t mount it in front of the intake ;D |

Title: Re: Any Disadvantage to Snorkel Removal? Post by verslagen1 on 12/21/19 at 16:51:27 any flat spot you can find. front of the bat box or the side on the side of the fender. |
Title: Re: Any Disadvantage to Snorkel Removal? Post by IslandRoad on 12/21/19 at 17:56:19 On to the internal wall of the battery box. If I remember correctly I didn't need to lengthen any wires. |
Title: Re: Any Disadvantage to Snorkel Removal? Post by IslandRoad on 12/21/19 at 17:59:00 Hole drilled in the bottom of the cover to allow a bit of ventilation (there's already a gap in the top-left where the wire feed through). Have had it here for over a year with no problems. |
Title: Re: Any Disadvantage to Snorkel Removal? Post by d3adrock on 12/22/19 at 00:05:59 Awesome this is really helpfull! Thanks a ton, i will be mounting it there instead. Just to recapitulate is it bad to remove the snorkel? Is it bad for the airflow to not line up with the intake? I want more airflow but I only want to use the stock airfilter. Is that a bad way to do it? |
Title: Re: Any Disadvantage to Snorkel Removal? Post by IslandRoad on 12/22/19 at 01:18:22 Some guys will say it's important, others will say it's unnecessary. When I was re-jetting etc I discovered my bike didn't have the snorkel in place. A member on here sent me one. I wanted things to be stock so I knew what I was changing (one thing at a time) and, I figured Suzuki had it in there for a reason. Honestly, I didn't notice any difference. It's an easy one to test. Ride with it in, and then with it removed. You should find out what you need to know ;D |

It's a healthy conversation. You will have to figure out what suits your needs. |
Title: Re: Any Disadvantage to Snorkel Removal? Post by srinath on 12/23/19 at 13:20:59 I didn't remove the airbox snorkel, but did put the R/R in the airbox. The airbox takes in a lot of air, so its likely getting nicely air cooled. Cool. Srinath. |
