Unfortunately, the anti-democratic electoral collage and radical Gerrymandering have delivered us a sequence of national disasters- in the form of Presidents who lost the popular vote -that might otherwise have been avoided. When everybody is counted equally, the decision failures/bigotry/willful ignorance of folks like Mark aren't elevated, and we'll all do better.
