2017 Boulevard S40. Love it dearly. Though if there's one feature that I'd say sucks is the rear tire valve stem trying to measure tire pressure consistently or add air. It's just a pregnant dog to get at. Spokes. Brake drum. Drive belt shield. Etc. Seems like something is always in the way.

I have a motorcycle tire gauge with a flexible head. Even when I can get a good seal readings vary from 0 to 33. Likewise my local gas station has an air hose with a flexible head but the metal nozzle barely fits between the rim and the valve stem (I have to try to thread it through the spokes).

Had one occasion recently where I had the stem located about 1 or 2 o'clock (viewed from the right side) and it seemed to work pretty well. Measured 33 PSI but I haven't been able to replicate. Leaky seal beween gauge head and valve stem yields ~20 PSI. Weather got cold here so I'm checking.

Tire feels solid. Ride and traction feel good. But I can't comfirm. Reluctant to push more air in if I can't validate consistent pressure measurement results.

Front tire is fine. Easy to access valve stem. Reading 29 PSI consistently.

Any pointers? Thanks.

First tire change
Get a tube with a 90 degree valve stem.
Or, yeah, it's a pregnant dog..

;D Thanks! Didn't know there was a 90 degree valve stem I'll keep that in mind.

The software gets a bit overzealous about protecting us from bad sounding words. Sometimes it can make describing a problem sound even worse. Just get your pet thingy fixed and you won't have a pregnant dog problem when checking your tire pressure. :)

This is the best way to make it easy. I get mine from the same site youzguys linked. Some shops carry these but not usually in the stock Savage rear tire size. Don't know for sure ,but chances are if the colder temps aren't changing front tire pressure ,they might not be changing the rear either . You could find a tire store that use nitrogen to fill tires and see what they charge to air you up ,as nitrogen is unaffected by temperature/ or find a hand pump (bicycle) with a gauge attached.

I wish I had of got a tube with a 90 degree valve stem when I got a new rear tire fitted as that seems the best solution.

I tried one of those extenders and dont like them. They have a small stem in the end that attaches to the tube to hold the tube valve open then after you have pumped the tire to the correct pressure the air leaks out of the tire while you are fiddling with getting it off so you dont then know what pressure you have in the tire I am told you must not leave it permanently on the tire.
Removing the little stem to stop the leaking then allows the tire valve to then stop you from deflating to reach the correct pressure while the extender is in place.
