Title: Sidestand silliness
Post by Armen on 09/28/19 at 07:37:58

So, the stock side stand is attached to the forward controls. A steel beast of a thing.
Did the rearset thing, so the side stand had to be changed.
Did a lot of head scratching, and decided the nice aluminum unit from a 675 Triumph was a good starting point.
Ebay is my friend! Found one.
Cut the mounting plate and re-angled it. Cut off the foot, and some of the leg, reangled the foot, and TIGed it all back together.
Had to do some odd VooDoo with the upper spring anchor.
When it was almost done, I realized the stand was hitting the nut from the motor mount.
In a fit of pointlessness, I had made some 10mm nuts out of 7068 aluminum with a 13mm head. using one of those, the side stand now goes up high enough to not worry me.
The front mount was originally a bolt and nut. Drilled out the frame slightly, and installed a 10x15 Heli-Coil. Found a nice stainless hex holt, gun drilled it, and Voila!
So, prettier, lighter, nice lean angle (18" wheels F+R). Tucks out of the way.
Luckily I don't have to justify my actions to anyone  :o
