Title: The battery that comes wth a new LS650?
Post by DesertCat on 07/11/19 at 18:23:27

Is it the old acid/water battery with caps for the 6 cells?  I'm going to look, and possibly buy, a 2017 LS650.  If it does come with the old-style battery I will probably replace it with a sealed AGM battery.  Not going Lithium just yet.

Never mind.  Sorry,  I should have looked closer at your reference section.  I found this:

The answer to my question is "Yes", the battery is the old/standard acid/water wet cell with the 6 caps, one per cell.

One of the first things I will do is replace it with a BigCrank ETX15L and put a battery tender pigtail on at the same time.

Big Crank is a good battery and a pigtail is always smart.
I wouldn't want a two year old, neglected battery, even if it fires right up. They never just up and quit at a convenient time.

Unless the battery in the bike is not working.....or you are going on a long trip, I would likely use the stock battery for the rest of this riding season.

No sense replacing a battery that has a year or two more life.

Well, the battery is at least 2 years old, possibly 3.  Here in the AZ desert heat, batteries rarely last longer than 4 years, and if I'm going to take the time to put a pigtail on the battery, I might as well put in a new battery at the same time -- BigCrank is only about $80 and it's a sealed AGM battery.  I've used BigCrank batteries from BatteryMart.com for many years.  Besides, I can use the old battery to replace the older battery that powers my electric winch.
